Polaris Advisory is a governance, risk and controls advisory firm serving shareholders, boards, chief executives, audit committees and executive teams of private and public companies.
The firm was founded on a simple observation. The advice boards receive is often produced by people who have never sat in the seats they are advising. Polaris Advisory exists to close that gap: counsel from the perspective of someone who has been the executive accountable for the numbers, the advisor engaged to examine them, and the director responsible for overseeing them.
The name is deliberate. Polaris is the star navigators steer by, the fixed point of reference when everything else is moving. That is the role we aim to play for our clients.
Hussan Arshad, Founder
Hussan is a senior governance executive and board director with two decades of experience in public-company oversight, business turnaround, internal and external audit, risk management, internal controls and performance improvement. His work spans industries including retail, supply chain and logistics, manufacturing, telecommunications, consumer products and professional services.
He has held senior finance, audit and risk leadership roles at DP World, Bell Canada, Stericycle and Canopy Growth, leading control environments through public-company scrutiny, building internal audit and risk functions in complex multinational settings, and carrying accountability for the numbers rather than commenting on them.
As part of organizations and in independent practice, he has advised boards and executive teams on internal audit, SOX and ICFR, enterprise risk and governance, working across jurisdictions and regulatory regimes, and guiding organizations through transformation, turnaround and distress.
He is serving as an Independent Director and Audit Committee Chair of a NASDAQ-listed specialty retailer, with direct responsibility for oversight of business performance, financial reporting, external audit, internal audit and risk. That experience shapes how Polaris Advisory advises: from the board's side of the table, with an understanding of how decisions actually get made in the room.
